SIR Jacob Rees-Mogg, one of the most recognisable MPs in Parliament, paid a pre-Easter visit to West Somerset at the weekend - and was presented with some Cadbury's crème eggs.
The former Leader of the House of Commons and Business Secretary attended a private function in Minehead in support of Conservative MP Ian Liddell-Grainger.
He was welcomed by new Tiverton and Minehead Conservative Association chairman Jean Parbrook, whose constituency Mr Liddell-Grainger will be contesting at the upcoming General Election because of boundary changes.
Sir Jacob entertained more than 50 guests in the Northfield Hotel during an evening in which he presented his down to earth version of Conservative policies and lamented how the Government appeared ‘out of kilter’ with grassroots members.
But he urged members to stick with the party because the alternative was a Labour Government with Sir Keir Starmer as Prime Minister who would take the country in the exact opposite direction to that which Conservatives wanted to see.
One of the guests presented Sir Jacob with a box of crème eggs, telling him: “I know you said you like these.”
Sir Jacob had previously confessed during a Parliamentary business questions session that he had a ‘predilection’ for the chocolate treat.
He told guests in Minehead that he had become an aficionado of the eggs and often ate one or two a day.
Sir Jacob has been MP for North East Somerset since 2010 and was knighted in 2022 in former Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list.
