A CONTRACTOR killed on the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station site has been named as 48-year-old Jason Waring.
Construction work was halted in the wake of the fatality, which was thought to have happened when Mr Waring was crushed by moving plant machinery early on Sunday, November 13.
Work slowly resumed before the end of the week as EDF Energy approved a phased restart to the construction project.
Mr Waring, who was from Nottingham, had worked as a supervisor for the site’s main contractor Bylor for four years.
He leaves a widow and four children.
Sarah Waring said her husband had been ‘a devoted and loving father who did everything for me and his sons and daughter’.
She said: “He was also a great friend, very loyal to many, and was always the life and soul of the party. We will miss him terribly.”
More than £70,000 has so far been raised for Mr Waring’s family via a GoFundMe appeal set up by his friend Luke McGrew.
Mr McGrew said Mr Waring ‘worked hard to provide for his family and always had a good sense of humour’ and was liked by people across the Hinkley C site for his ‘northern wit’.
Bylor project director Chris Wilkinson said: “Jason joined our team on the Hinkley Point C project in 2018, and since then had become a much respected and well-liked member of our team.
“He was an excellent supervisor and his colleagues will remember him fondly as someone who was fun to spend time with.
“The whole team is shocked and upset by his death, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
Avon and Somerset Police, which is not treating the death as suspicious, has spoken with a man in his 60s who gave a voluntary interview in relation to a ‘crush injury death’ at the site.
Police and the Office for Nuclear Regulation are continuing to investigate the incident.
