SWIMMING by the light of the moon is being offered to users of Wivey Pool, in Wiveliscombe.

The outdoor pool, which is one of the oldest in Somerset, is running sessions named ‘Dimpsy Dips’.

The next is scheduled for Monday, August 19, starting at 9 pm, which is 35 minutes after the sun sets that day, followed by another on Tuesday, September 17, again at 9 pm.

A spokesperson said: “Take the plunge and swim in the moonlight.

“Join us for a magical experience you will not forget.

“Swim in our heated pool as the sun goes down, and the stars come out under moonlight.”

Wivey Pool opened 97 years ago in August with cold water piped from nearby reservoirs, but today has heated water, boilers, pumps, filters, and dosing systems costing £60,000 a year to run.

It has up to 20 staff and a team of about a dozen volunteers during peak season.
