DOG owners on Exmoor have been warned by police to keep their pets on a lead after the latest sheep worrying incident.
Two sheep died and two more were seriously injured in a dog attack in Brompton Regis, near Wimbleball Lake.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: “Please ensure if you are a dog owner that the dog is kept under control and not allowed to roam.”
The latest attack follows two incidents near Williton in February when dogs were seen attacking sheep in a field.
On both occasions ewes were so badly injured that they had to be put down. One of them had been pregnant.
Exmoor National Park Authority, which has about 620 miles of public footpaths and bridleways, said it welcomed dog walkers on the moors but said as with any activity, there were a few simple things owners could do to ensure a good experience for everybody.
A spokeswoman said dogs should be regularly wormed and treated for fleas and ticks and owners should clean up after their dog.
She said: “Taking a walk in the countryside is great for your health and happiness.
“Generally, dogs should be under close control at all times and there are specific areas and times of the year that they need to be kept on a lead.”
