A CHEQUE for £2,000 has been presented by Minehead Motor Club (MMC) to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

The money came from the club’s participation in the annual Lyn Valley Classic car show held in June.

MMC takes part in the rally each year and from starting with taking 40 classic vehicles it now displays more than double that number.

Club secretary Richard Williams said: “We support them by taking cars over there and they support us by giving some money back, which we then donate to the air ambulance.

“We always support the air ambulance because being in the motor business if there was to be a major accident then the air ambulance will generally have to be involved.”

Club vice-chairman Clive Rayson said: “We are in a remote area and if there is a serious incident out in the sticks, they are the people who are going to come and help you.”

MMC, which has just celebrated its 60th anniversary, currently has 190 members and exists to promote all aspects of motor sport.

The club organises trials, classic car tours, rallies, auto tests, hillclimbs and other motoring activities each year.

The cheque was received by air ambulance charity deputy chief executive Julie Plowden and Somerset supporter engagement officer Charlotte Humber.

The air ambulance service flew to nearly 3,000 incidents last year with each mission costing about £3,500.

It operates 19 hours a day from 7 am to 2 am every day of the year and provides life-saving pre-hospital critical care.
