THE National Trust invites visitors to step into a country Christmas and embrace the seasonal traditions of Dunster Castle’s longstanding owners, the Luttrell family.
From Saturday, December 14 to Sunday, January 5, visitors will be greeted by a towering eleven-foot Christmas tree and the castle will be decorated for the festive season.
On December 14, 15, 21, and 22, visitors to the castle will be able to experience the magic of Dunster Castle after dark. An illuminated path will lead visitors up to the castle to explore the seasonally decorated rooms, accompanied by live music from local musicians.
Tenants’ Hall will be open, offering a selection of hot drinks and festive treats. Last entry to the castle will be 5.45pm, closing at 6pm, and the grounds will close at 7pm.
Paul Fry, visitor operations and experience manager, said: “I’m delighted that we are extending our opening hours on Christmas weekends for visitors to come and enjoy the magic of the season.
“The castle is a special place at any time of the year, but especially so at Christmas, and we hope people will enjoy the opportunity to add some sparkle to their festivities.”
The festive fun continues after Christmas with the 12 Days of Christmas trail around the house and garden, inspired by household traditions between Christmas and New Year.
Visitors wanting to get outdoors after the festivities can admire panoramic views of the Bristol Channel and surrounding countryside from the subtropical garden at the South Terrace or head to the natural play area in the River Garden to let off some steam.
Dunster Castle and Watermill are open on weekends in December and daily from December 14 until January 5.
The Stables Shop, Watermill Tearoom, parkland, and car park are open daily throughout December. The entire site will be closed on December 24 and 25.
