A WELSH family have been welcomed as Minehead Museum’s 70,000th visitors since it opened 10 years ago.

The Saunders, from Barry, were presented with a commemorative certificate and surprise gifts.

Museum chairman Julian Luke said: "The family were spending the bank holiday in Minehead and having enjoyed their visit to the museum, they found out they had helped us reach the 70,000 mark.

“Along with a commemorative certificate, the family had a choice of souvenir books, badges, or pencils to record their visit.”

Mr Luke said last month’s visitor figures were encouraging, including school and group visits.

The museum occupies part of the YMCA Beach Hotel and opens Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 10am to 4pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm.
