A FESTIVE event to round off the holiday comes to Minehead on Sunday (December 29) when Dutch music legend André Rieu's dazzling Christmas concert ‘Gold and Silver’ is screened at the Regal Theatre at 2.30 pm.
Filmed in Rieu’s home town of Maastricht, this latest concert from one of the world’s most popular classical violinists and conductors embodies the festive spirit under the sparkle of 150 chandeliers and 50 Venetian candelabras and includes many favourite Christmas classics and carols.
The festive extravaganza has transformed the town’s concert centre into a fairytale winter palace with special effects, ice-skaters, dancers, and a Christmas market.
The concert will include a range of Christmas classics and carols including Jingle Bells, Ave Maria, Silent Night, and Sleigh Bells.
André Rieu is joined on stage by his 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra, Emma Kok, and special guest artists.
As the founder of the Johann Strauss Orchestra, Andre Rieu has made classical music accessible to a wide audience, featuring waltzes and music from opera, film, musicals, operettas, and traditional melodies.
His charisma and musicianship have made him a globally acclaimed artist.
Rieu first played the violin at five and now owns a 1667 Stradivarius violin.
When he founded his orchestra in 1987 it had 12 musicians.
A Regal spokesperson said: “With his extraordinary concerts, which take place in open-air venues and in the world’s largest concert halls, André Rieu has proved that music is a universal language that unites people.”
Seats can be booked in advance online and at the Regal box office, which is open from 9.30 am to 12 pm Monday to Saturday.
The Regal bar opens at 2 pm.
