MORE volunteers are being recruited by Minehead’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) station to allow visitors to tour it seven days a week.
A new visits team was put together following a £1 million remodelling of the boathouse last year in time for the charity’s 200th anniversary celebrations in 2024.
The visits team, which sits within the station’s fund-raising crew, is led by Ray Ventura and has since shown ‘countless visitors’ around the boathouse and explained how the volunteer crews save lives at sea.
Mr Ventura said: “We have put together a great team who have had an impressive year, winning recognition for providing an excellent insight into how RNLI Minehead works.
“Minehead ranks as one of the highest performing stations in the UK for visitor satisfaction.”
Now, for the 2025 summer season, Mr Ventura wants the team to be available every day of the week, which will require a major expansion and recruitment of more volunteers.
Mr Ventura said: “Full training will be provided, and the time commitment is flexible.”
Anybody interested in joining the team should email Mr Ventura at [email protected] or call in to the station.
The lifeboat station’s annual Carols in the Boathouse service with music by Watchet Town Band saw a bumper crowd this year with more than £1,000 raised toward ‘Saving Lives at Sea’.
A spokesperson said: “Thank you so much to everybody who came, to those who sang, to those who made music, to those who helped. We had a blast.”
