MINEHEAD Street Choir and friends have marked ten years of community singing and a celebratory week has brought laughter throughout the group.
The club was initially set up in March 2014. Nigel Neill, the club founder, said: “We first met up at the Rugby Club in March 2014 and have been making a noise ever since.”
The club has grown year on year over the past ten years. Nigel said: “It has been such a wonderful ride. So many good friends, gentle relaxed souls, sharing our time together. Many thousands of pounds raised for local and international charities, too. Thank you all our singers, their families and friends who have encouraged us along the way.”
During the celebration week, members of the choir and their friends were ‘singing for their supper’ to mark the occasion.
Nigel has worked in music all of his life, including writing music for BBC television. Nigel said: “I've enjoyed running community music projects for the last ten years including three years studying music therapy and counselling skills at UWE.
“I have established four successful community choirs in Taunton, Minehead, Tiverton and Exeter and launched an online choir in 2021, which brings community music making into people's homes.”
The choir is always encouraging new members to join. They sing on Thursday evenings at the United Reformed Church Hall on Irnham Road at 7pm.
