THE MATA summer show ‘The Little Mermaid’ is being presented in Minehead’s Regal Theatre next week.
The musical is based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, but with a different, happier ending.
Directed by Sabrina Schwery and produced by Marina Carey, it is for all ages from youngsters to the more mature.
A large number of young people, with some adult help as well, put in a lot of time and effort to the show, which runs from Tuesday (August 6) through to Saturday (August 10).
Running alongside the rehearsals there has been a competition devised by Ms Carey for local schools and care homes to produce images of sea creatures, the winners of which will be announced shortly.
There were dozens of entries and many have been used to decorate the Regal to give a feeling of being under the sea.
Spokesperson Richard Derry said: “So, besides coming to see a very colourful exhibition and musical, you will also be entertained by very colourful and original costumes which are the result of hard work and time put in by the volunteers.
“I cannot praise enough the time and effort of the cast and all the volunteers who have produced such colourful costumes and given freely of their spare time, also those who have helped transform the Regal Theatre into a picture of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy story.”
The show runs each evening at 7.30 pm with a matinee on the Saturday at 2.30 pm. Tickets are available from the box office.
