HUNGARIAN takeaway food could soon be available in Minehead if businessman Istvan Serfozo wins planning permission for a change to his cafe premises in The Avenue.
Mr Serfozo has run The Icon Bakery with his wife Monika and daughter Viktoria for the past two years, offering a traditional homemade Hungarian menu.
Now, he wants to add a hot food takeaway to the business and has applied to Somerset Council for planning consent.
Mr Serfozo said: “We take pride in our commitment to authenticity, because when it comes to our products, it is all about genuine Hungarian flavour and a touch of family magic.”
He also plans to change the name of the business from April 1 to Smash Corner, named after the smash burger style of patty.
Mr Serfozo said: “It will be a mix between bakery, cafe, and takeaway.
“We will still keep the coffee and cakes, we are just extending the menu because of requests from customers.”
Planning agent Adam Elston, of Architectural Studio South West, said the application did not involve any alterations to the look of the building and it would not impact Minehead’s town centre conservation area.
Minehead town councillors have supported the change of use planning application, but expressed concern about business waste material, ventilation of the premises, and the ‘numerous tables and chairs’ which had appeared outside on the pavement.
Somerset Council has set a target of March 27 to determine the application and is asking for any public comments by February 29.
