VILLAGERS in Porlock will have a face to face opportunity next week to tell parish councillors what they believe should be done with the Old School Centre.
The parish council is holding an extraordinary meeting for that purpose in the village hall at 7 pm on Tuesday, August 13.
The council has been considering the building’s future since Porlock Vale Community Interest Company (PVCIC) announced its information and craft centre use would relocate to the Vale Yard, High Street.
PVCIC has formed a joint venture with Miles Tea and Coffee Co to create ‘something very special for Porlock’.
The parish council together with the Lovelace Community Resource Centre and Porlock Community Library will continue to use the building.
The special council meeting will hear feedback from a public consultation asking villagers for their views on the best future use of the building.
Comments so far have included a number of commercial and non-commercial ideas with people calling for flexible or dedicated space in one or both of the rooms.
Council chairman Cllr Duncan McCanlis will then open the meeting for any residents attending to speak direct to councillors.
Councillors will then pick out their priorities and layout options to be reviewed at their next meeting on September 11, also in the village hall, and decide if a final decision will be taken then or at the following meeting on October 9.
They will also be asked next week to agree to allow PVCIC to stay in the centre until Friday, November 15.
