A FORMER hairdressing salon in Nether Stowey can be turned into holiday accommodation after planning permission was granted.
The grade two listed The Courtyard Shop, in Caste Street, adjoins Standfast House, a former bed and breakfast establishment bought in 2022 by Glyn Hodgson.
Mr Hodgson said Standfast House was now a family home and the hairdresser’s building, which shared an access, had not been used as such for five years.
He wanted to use the property as a one-bedroom guest suite ancillary to the house and also for holiday let purposes.
Mr Hodgson said a holiday let would support the village economy and local people had backed his plans to bring ‘the old shop back to life’.
Somerset Council planning officer Liam Evans said the change would have only limited impact on the setting of the listed building because the conversion work would be internal, and ensure a future for the building.
