VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help the work of local charity Home-Start West Somerset, which supports parents with young children in their local communities.

To encourage more people to become involved, the charity is holding an open afternoon next week with a free lunch for those who attend.

The event in Alcombe Children’s Centre, Minehead, will give people an opportunity to talk to some of Home-Start’s staff and existing volunteers.

It will take place on Thursday, September 26, from 12noon to 2pm and places can be booked by emailing [email protected] or calling 01643 707304.

Home-Start works with families across West Somerset from Porlock to Stogursey offering support, friendship, and practical help to parents with young children.

A group of trustees, volunteers, and friends last week walked 28 miles in a relay along the length of the West Somerset coast from Porlock Bay to Bridgwater Bay and raised nearly £1,800.
