LARGE crowds arrived for the annual Hawkridge Revel, on Exmoor, and despite the uncertain weather every event took place in the dry.
They enjoyed showing classes, followed by a group of 18 ponies in the children’s mounted fancy dress portraying characters from books, films, and mythology, led by parents and older siblings, also dressed up.
The popular running races for every age group attracted a large audience, as did the dog show, where at one point there were more than 100 animals present, some of which took part in the Mayhem Dog Race at the end of the day, where they were released to run, ideally, toward a ‘catcher’ at the other end.
The show-jumping ring was kept in continuous use, with every competitor encouraged by the popular Kevin Lamacraft, and the side shows and refreshments tent all reported ‘a good day’.
A ‘roving reporter’ asked people in the crowd for items of their own good news in the past year and the announcer broadcast a selection of them between classes and events, with the idea of neutralising the ‘non-stop bad news’ which was heard every day.
