PORLOCK Community Library, run by volunteers, has several events lined up from tomorrow to Saturday (October 9-14) in celebration of National Libraries Week.

First off the blocks is a 10am story time for ‘Tots and Toddlers’ at 10am on Monday followed at 11am on Tuesday by ‘With Great Pleasure’ – a selection of popular poems and readings chosen and performed by residents of Wootton Courtenay – and at 2.30pm, ‘stress-busting’ colouring for adults.

Wednesday brings ‘Have a go with computers’ at 10.30am with the Porlock Village Agent in the library at 11am.

Local amateur photographer Peter Clapham will be in the library at 2.30pm to talk about ‘Getting to Grips with Your Compact Camera’. Peter has been a keen photographer for 70 years and is happy to share his expertise and photographer’s experience, which includes building his own darkroom and enlarger as a teenager.

On Friday, from 11am, local teacher, musician and charity fundraiser Bev Trimmings will be playing ‘A Musical Reed’, with popular tunes and melodies on clarinet and saxophone.

Bev is a clarinet and saxophone teacher with 20 years’ experience and has students aged five to 80.

She also raises funds for the charity Hope for Tomorrow’s mobile chemotherapy unit ‘Bumble’ to bring cancer treatment closer to patients’ homes.

There will be a book sale and cake sale on Friday and Saturday (October 13-14) and quizzes running throughout the week. Refreshments will be available.
