AN opportunity will be available next week for Minehead residents to tell town councillors face to face how they feel about a range of issues, including controversial plans for a petrol station and Costa coffee store off the A39 Ellicombe roundabout.

Town clerk Ben Parker said: “Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how the planning system works and how they can provide feedback on this project and other important developments within the town.”

The informal community engagement event will be held in Minehead Community Centre, Irnham Road, at 7.30pm on Tuesday (March 18).

Councillors will be present to talk directly with residents and help them learn more about key local issues and upcoming events.

Representatives from other local organisations, including Minehead Rotary Club and Minehead Museum, will also be attending to discuss their work and ongoing community initiatives.

Information will be given out on this year’s Minehead Town Council-funded events, including the popular Eat Festival, VE Day anniversary celebrations, and the annual Christmas shopping and lights switch on.

Mr Parker said: “Residents interested in participating or contributing to these events can find out more during the session.

“The event will provide a chance to discover more about the devolution of open spaces from Somerset Council to the town council, and explore how this change could benefit the community.”

Mr Parker said the event was not a council meeting, but could be a platform for anybody who wanted to become a councillor and ‘make a difference in the community and contribute to local decision-making’ by applying to fill one of the vacancies on the authority.

He said: “It is an informal and welcoming space where residents can speak with town councillors, share their ideas, and engage with local issues without the formality of a structured meeting.”
