MANY people entered the annual Minehead and District Flower and Produce Show for the first time as the number of entries this year showed an increase on previous events.
The annual show, held in the West Somerset College, goes back many decades and continues to be well-supported by the local community.
A spokesperson for Minehead Gardening Club, which organises the show, said it was ‘very encouraging’ to see a significant number of first-time exhibitors this year.
They said: “The standard of entries was also very high in the vegetable, fruit, and flowers classes despite the cold, wet spring and early summer of the year, followed by bursts of intense heat and almost drought conditions through July and early August.

“The home craft classes were exceptionally well-supported with a record 14 entries in one class.”
Judges inspected the entries in the morning and the show opened to the public in the afternoon with hundreds of people visiting to admire the skill and talents of the exhibitors.
They also enjoyed refreshments, a raffle, and a plant and produce stall, and displays by West Somerset Garden Centre and Minehead Coastwatch.
The spokesperson said the club wanted to thank everybody who exhibited, visited, and helped make the day a huge success.
