A PRESTIGIOUS ‘Young Leaders in Service’ (YLIS) award has been made by Minehead and District Lions Club to teenager Anthony Knight.

Talented violinist Anthony is a pupil of Taunton School and lives in Minehead.

He spent the summer touring Europe to perform in a number of major cities and raised more than £12,000 for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine appeal.

The appeal has been providing food, sanitation, education, and shelter for those suffering the effects of the war.

Anthony, aged 16, who is lead violinist in the Taunton School Orchestra, has also entertained many retired people in care homes in West Somerset and further afield by playing his music.

The Lions award is given for work carried out over a period of 12 months by young people from the local area.

It is attained by young people who provide service through their local Lions club for at least 100 hours during the year.
