A YEAR seven pupil in Minehead Middle School has won through the first round of the Rotary Young Chef Awards.
Eleven-year-old Roxana Sramska took part in a heat held in the West Somerset College, Minehead, competing against pupils from different schools.
She was given the challenge of planning and cooking a main meal and dessert for two people for £18.
Roxana served a bed of homemade pesto pasta with a fillet of salmon, followed by honey and banana pancakes, which won her first place.
Year seven head Sarah Mills said: “We are so incredibly proud of Roxy’s achievement and the skills she has showcased in our local community.”
Roxana will now take her place in the next heat in February.
The annual contest is for youngsters aged 11 to 17 years in full-time education, with entrants planning and cooking meals to develop their food presentation skills and gain experience in high pressure situations.
