A PUBLIC toilet in Minehead closed suddenly this week due to structural safety fears with the building.

A town council spokesperson said there had been ‘an unforeseen incident’ in the toilets in the Summerland Road car park.

The spokesperson said the incident required ‘a thorough structural assessment of the building’.

The Changing Places toilet and men’s facilities were reopened on Wednesday (October 16) but the women’s toilets remained temporarily closed for essential safety works which were expected to take a few days to complete.

The council said alternative facilities were available in Blenheim Gardens, Quay West, and Warren Road.

The spokesperson said: “The decision to close the facility was made to ensure public safety while structural experts conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the building's integrity.

“The primary concern is the safety of our community members.

“We are taking all necessary precautions and working hard to resolve this situation as quickly as possible.”
