RESIDENTS have been warned of potential overnight disruption when resurfacing work takes place on one of the key routes into Hinkley Point C.
Work will start between the entrance to the site and the Cannington Roundabout next week and is expected to take around a month to complete.
Specialist resurfacing contractor, Heidelberg Materials, will carry out the work in phases from Monday, September 23, until Tuesday, October 26.
Work will also be carried out at night between 7pm and 5am. A full road closure for each phase will be in place, but access will be maintained for residents and businesses.
There are three phases to the work:
- Week commencing September 23: Wick Lane to Cock Lane
- Week commencing October 7: Wick Lane to site entrance
- Week commencing October 14: Series of short sections between Monk Lane junction and Cannington roundabout.
Somerset Council’s lead member for transport and digital, Councillor Richard Wilkins, said: “This is a vital route for what is one of the biggest construction projects in Europe so it is really important that we carry out this essential maintenance to safeguard the life span of the road for both business traffic and for local residents.
“We have worked closely with the team at Hinkley Point C to ensure the scheme is delivered as quickly as possible to minimise disruption for residents on the route and the plant traffic.”
