THE success of Minehead’s Regal Theatre is causing a casting headache for one of its thespian members this autumn.
The Waterfront Theatre Company is one of the Minehead Amateur Theatrical Association (MATA) companies which regularly perform at the Regal.
MATA, which next year will celebrate 30 years of its volunteers running the building, comprises the Waterfront, three other groups of thespians, and a film society.
The Waterfront’s Fred Owen said his group urgently needed actors for its November production of ‘Avalon - The Birth of a Legend’
Mr Owen said: “There are so many shows at the Regal this autumn that we are having trouble casting our November production.”
The Arthurian tale is set after the final battle of Camlann is over and Arthur lies dying of his mortal wounds in the Abbey of Glastonbury.
The civil war has been costly and nobody is really sure who has won.
The family are gathering, each with their own agenda, when into the maelstrom stumble travelling bard Amergin and his sister Rhiannon.
The main roles still to be cast include Bedywyr, a veteran soldier and Arthur's best friend who is Guinevere's ex-lover, for which the Waterfront wants to cast somebody in their late 20s to 50s; Mordred, which needs somebody in their late teens through to early 30s to play Arthur's illegitimate son; and Rhiannon, who needs to be in her late teens to early 30s.
Rehearsals are taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the production is slated for November 23, 24, and 25.
