A MOTORCYCLIST was killed on Monday morning (April 22) after a crash on the A39 at Whit Stones near the top of Porlock Hill.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 6 am and several police and ambulance vehicles were called, while the Wales Air Ambulance also landed nearby.
The rider, a man, died at the scene.
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “His next of kin has been informed and will be supported by specially-trained officer.
“Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
The A39 was closed in both directions while emergency services were at the scene and inquiries were bring carried out.
An equine specialist was also called to the scene due to concerns an animal may have been injured in the same incident.
However, the animal was checked over and was not believed to have been seriously injured.
A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said: “We were called at 5.53 am to an incident near Porlock.
“We sent an air ambulance, two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, a first responder and a doctor to the scene."
