AN appeal has been issued for volunteers to join a walking group being set up for visitors to the National Trust’s Coleridge Cottage, in Nether Stowey.
The cottage, which was home to famed English poet Samual Taylor Coleridge, is due to open for visitors toward the end of the month.
And for this season the trust is creating a team to support the setting up and delivering of walks in the local area.
A spokesperson said: “Are you passionate about walking and inspiring inspiring others to get active outdoors and connect with nature?
“Be involved in our walking offer, whether that is leading the walk or helping to make sure it is safe and enjoyable.
“Work with others and assist staff with route planning and visitor information.
“Walk leader training and kit will be provided, so you feel confident and prepared to support your walking group.”
Volunteers have also been busy helping with the annual winter clean of the 314 items in the cottage’s collection.
The spokesperson said: “Using conservation techniques, we inspect and clean everything from the ceilings to the floor and all the objects in between so the cottage looks fantastic ready to open for the new season.”
Coleridge Cottage site manager Charlotte Hall said other roles were also open to volunteers, including helping to prepare an Easter trail for the beginning of April.
Ms Hall was also looking for a visitor experience officer to work alongside her to help ‘deliver a memorable and engaging experience for our visitors’.
She said: “Get stuck into every aspect of the daily operation, from visitor experience to volunteer management, conservation, and our commercial spaces.
“No two days are the same.”
Coleridge Cottage will be open between March 26 and November 2 this year from 11 am to 5 pm, and anybody interested in volunteering should visit the trust website.
