A NEW book charting a year on Exmoor farms in words and pictures will be launched by the Exmoor Society on October 16.

The release is part of celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the National Park and ten years of Exmoor Hill Farming Network.

Exmoor Farms: A Year on the Moor, written by local author Victoria Eveleigh, with photographs by Eleanor Davis, is a landmark publication exploring what it means to farm Exmoor in the 21st century.

The project spans a farming year and includes profiles of farms, portraits of the people who live and work on them, and accounts of the markets, shows and other highlights of Exmoor life.

The launch and book signing at Cutcombe Market, Wheddon Cross, at 1.30pm on Wednesday, October 16 will be followed by an exhibition of Eleanor Davis’s photographs at White Rock Cottage, Simonsbath in October and November.

This is a record of Eleanor’s work over the past year when she visited over 60 farms, vividly portraying the lives of the farming community. The show also includes work by GCSE photography students from Park and Ilfracombe schools.

The exhibition runs from 11 am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday - October 19 and 20, Saturday and Sunday - October 26 and 27, and Saturday and Sunday - November 2 and 3. Admission is free.

For the past 30 years, Victoria Eveliegh has run a hill farm with her husband Chris, while Eleanor Davis grew up on the family farm and specialises in wedding, portrait and agricultural photography.
