A COMMUNITY group on Exmoor established to grow organic food for its members is to start up again next week in Brushford.
Anybody interested in becoming part of the Exmoor Community Food Group is being invited to attend the first session of the new growing season which is being held on Friday, March 21, from 1 pm to 3 pm.
Spokeswoman Chantal Brown said: “This year, we hope to be able to support Moorland Food Bank with some of the food we grow as we hope to expand our growing zone.
“No experience, skills, equipment required, everybody is welcome in our inclusive and friendly group, and there are tasks of all sorts.
“We share the harvest every week, drink tea, eat biscuits, and plan together what and how and where we should grow.”
Ms Brown said the group was trialling Fridays for meeting up to find out if it was a day which suited more people.
She said: “We grow healthy, chemical free food together.
“I am vey excited to see what we can grow and who we may meet this year.”
Ms Brown said she would be pleased to hear from any businesses or individuals who might want to make a financial contribution to the group’s running costs, or to give items such as seeds, compost, plants, and nets.
She said: “We do not need much, but any little donation would go a long way.”
Moorland Food Bank came through a crisis point last year and was re-formed with a new group of trustees and volunteers in November.
The charity now helps more people than ever in the Dulverton and southern Exmoor area.
The food bank has donation collection points located in the Carnarvon Stores, in Brushford, and in the Co-op supermarket and Woods Bar and Restaurant, in Dulverton.
