TOWN council chairman Cllr Christine Dubery cut a red ribbon to officially declare open a new library for Dulverton schoolchildren.

The library opening for All Saints’ Church of England and Dulverton Junior Schools was turned into a community event by headteacher Nicola Stenner, who had invited visitors to go along to it and to also meet staff and take a tour of the campus.

A number of authors who are local to Exmoor also attended the occasion, including Sarah Easter Collins, Kate Lord-Brown, Victoria Eveleigh, and Clare Barker, who over the weekend had taken part in the annual Dulverton Exmoor Literary Festival, together with festival director Ali Pegrum.

Some of the children had also entered the literary festival’s children’s writing competition, in which they wrote 500 words on the theme of ‘magical Exmoor’.

The library programme was supported by the Cornerstones Reading Project, which helped the school to attract significant investment.
