WORK on a new police station for Minehead is on schedule for it to be opened in early November.
Refurbishment has been ongoing in the town’s former Seahorse Centre, in Stephenson Road, which Avon and Somerset Constabulary will share with Somerset Council.
The building will house Minehead’s Neighbourhood Policing Team and an inquiry office, replacing the Townsend Road police station, and will also provide ‘touchdown desks’ for response officers.
The rest of the property will be leased back to the council for it to train health and social care staff in conjunction with other public and social care provider partners as part of the Government’s Levelling Up programme.
Police officers and staff will continue to work out of the Townsend Road station until the Seahorse Centre is ready, after which the old station will be advertised for sale.
The Seahorse Centre was previously used for day care for children and young adults with disabilities.
