Every time I drive past Bridgwater on the M5 I get upset by the sorry state of what used to be the beautiful sculpture called Willow Man. He often had a bird perched on his arm like an ancient hunter.
Now surrounded by housing estates and Morrisons, it is so sad and embarrassing as the gateway to the West.
An iconic statue that has been allowed to decay beyond recognition. Created by Serena de la Hey in 2000, I understand that Sedgmoor District Council has not got the funds to maintain him. Is this not something that Somerset County Council could all contribute to and restore him to his former glory.
What does the local council have to say about this? Perhaps he could be rebuilt on the other side of the M5 away from all the developments that have surrounded him.
