PLANS for 75 new homes being built in Watchet went on view on Tuesday, as part of the first phase of a 250-home development at Liddymore Park by Taunton-based Summerfield Homes’ featuring one, two, three and four-bedroom properties.

The company is taking appointments via sales adviser Rene Kilner, who will be based at Greenslade Taylor Hunt, Williton from 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday,

The first properties will be available towards the end of this year and the scheme offers a mix of open market homes and affordable homes with a partnership with local housing association, SHAL, through the My Homes government backed initiative.

A range of environmental initiatives will include a waste water heat recovery system, hedgehog homes, bug hotels, bird and bat nesting boxes.

Summerfield will also be planting more than 750 new trees in the area, contributing to the 1.1million trees already planted throughout the company’s 54 new home developments and commercial projects throughout the South West.

Ed Khodabandehloo, managing director of Summerfield Homes, said: “Liddymore Park is an excellent development in an upcoming location offering a good mix of open market and affordable homes for local people.”

Controversy surrounded the early days of the project when protestors argued that the large number of houses would cause chaos on local roads and that a “traffic nightmare” would await children attending nearby Knights Templar School.

But Somerset West and Taunton council planning committee approved the plans by a large margin
