FIREFIGHTERS from Minehead and Porlock were mobilised in the early hours of Saturday (December 28) to a property on Exmoor.
They discovered a chimney had caught fire in the isolated home near Luccombe shortly before 2.30 am.
A Porlock fire crew was initially sent to the incident but they realised more personnel were needed to deal with it.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue then despatched a second fire engine from Minehead.
The firefighters worked from the hearth using chimney gear to put out the blaze.
They then inspected the loft space of the property to check for any signs of fire spread or damage before allowing the residents to return as they left the scene.
Minehead fire crews were also called out twice on Christmas Day, the first time just four minutes after midnight, and the second in the evening.
Both were automatic fire alarms activated either by dust or a fault.
