DETAILS of how to register for new homes which are nearing completion in Minehead will be revealed on Tuesday (September 19).
A progress report on the Rainbow Way development, off Seaward Way, will be given by Somerset Council and the process explained for anybody who wants to register for the new properties.
The 54-home development, which is a mix of 33 flats and 21 houses, is due to be completed in the summer of next year.
They will be the first council homes in West Somerset for more than 30 years and are intended to meet zero-carbon standards.
The council information event is being held at Minehead Cricket Club from 2 pm to 5 pm.
Somerset executive Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts said: “It is exciting to see these much-needed new homes starting to take shape.
“I hope as many residents as possible will come along to the event to find out more.
“These are the first new council homes to be built in Minehead in a generation and that is a great achievement, particularly as the properties will comply with 2050 zero-carbon standards.”
Construction of the homes is well under way with contractors Classic Builders making such good progress that the council hopes to release some of houses ready for occupation during next spring.
The Rainbow Way scheme has ambitious energy performance targets, working toward the London Energy Transformation Initiative (LETI) definition of net zero.
Low carbon technologies, including photovoltaic panels, thermal storage with smart controllers, and air source heat pumps will be installed, leading to lower energy bills for residents.
Innovative clay blocks have been used in the construction which are low carbon and insulated to improve heat retention in the buildings.
Priority for the new properties, a mix of two, three, and four-bedroom houses and one and two-bedroom flats, will be given to those living in or having connections to Minehead, as well as the neighbouring the parishes of Minehead Without, Selworthy, Wootton Courtenay, Timberscombe, and Dunster.
