COASTAL charity walker Tim Jones and his dog Monty were today on their way to Watchet after an overnight stop in Minehead.

Mr Jones is attempting to walk the entire British coast, including its islands, over the next four to six years to raise £500,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

He set off from his home town of Exmouth in January and is walking clockwise around the coastline.

He reached Minehead on Wednesday evening and was put up in the Waverley Guest House and given pizza in Minehead Kebab Centre.

Today, he met Minehead Deputy Mayor Cllr Toni Bloomfield in the town’s Cafe Connect and she provided him with a packed lunch for the next stage of the journey to Watchet and gravy bones treats for Monty.

Cllr Bloomfield said: “What he is doing is fantastic and his dog is the most adorable little thing. I wish him and Monty all the best on their journey.

“He seems really positive and Monty was raring to go and get walking again.

“He has been enjoying the views in the different places he has passed through and he is in really good spirits.”

Mr Jones, aged 33, estimates he will cover 8,000 miles on his journey and to date has been averaging about 60 miles a week.

He will be staying in Watchet from today until Sunday before setting off again and has promised to provide the Free Press with an update before he departs.
