A HOST of steam and vintage vehicles will be displayed in all their splendour at an event returning to Norton Fitzwarren this summer.

The Steam and Vintage Rally will be held over two days on Saturday and Sunday, August 3-4, with plenty to entertain the family.

Visitors to the event will be delighted to see mighty steam engines, trusty tractors, shiny vintage cars and motorbikes, military tanks, stationary engines, railway exhibits and arena parades.

There will also be the opportunity to enjoy a ‘brake van’ ride along the old Barnstaple railway line. Amid all the excitement, people can take a break in the refreshment marquee which will be selling a range of local ales and ciders. There will also be a food hall, trade stands, a craft marquee, models, and children’s entertainments.

The WSRA Steam and Vintage Rally is run by a team of dedicated volunteers.  The primary aim is to raise funds for the owning charity the West Somerset Railway Association, (WSRA) which in turn supports the West Somerset Railway.

The rally also promotes and cultivates interest in steam and vintage transport and to ensure a thoroughly enjoyable day out for the community and all supporters of the West Somerset Railway.

The event’s website states: “The rally is great fun, whether you participate as an exhibitor, volunteer as a helper or just come along for an enjoyable day out.”

People can also travel on a free train service to the rally from West Somerset Railway’s Bishop’s Lydeard Station or use a free dedicated bus service from Silk Mills ‘Park and Ride’, through Norton Fitzwarren to the rally site. There is free parking at Bishop’s Lydeard Station and the rally site.

The event welcomes well behaved dogs and their owners but they must be kept on a lead and under close control at all times. People are also reminded to clear up after their pets.

Tickets cost £15 for adults, £8 for young people (13-17) children up to the age of 12 accompanied by an adult enter free.
