NEW litter pickers and bags for West Somerset residents to use over the summer months have been given to three #2minutelitterpick boards in Watchet Visitor Centre, Minehead’s Channel Adventure, and Porlock Weir Hotel.
SUEZ UK, the waste and recycling collections contractor for Somerset Council, has funded three refill kits for established boards on a yearly basis.
The equipment is used by volunteers who help to keep West Somerset’s streets, parks, and beaches clean.
The work is supported by the district’s ‘Plastic Free’ communities and Litter Free Coast and Sea Somerset.
SUEZ community liaison manager Lily Morton said: “We are delighted to support and fund some of these local two-minute foundation boards.
“The boards provide a fantastic opportunity for local residents and visitors to actively participate in maintaining a litter-free environment.
“Keeping our local areas free from litter has numerous positive impacts and as the household recycling and rubbish collection contractor for the county, it is our utmost priority to give back to the local community.
“Together, we can make a significant difference and create a cleaner, more sustainable environment for everybody.”
‘Plastic Free’ spokesman Peter Hoyland said: “We are very grateful to Suez for providing funding for additional litter pickers and bags that will ensure that all of the two-minute litter pick boards across West Somerset and Exmoor are fully equipped for the summer months.
“These boards are incredibly popular with residents and visitors and play a vital role in helping to keep our countryside and coast litter free.”
