THREE more West Somerset coast beach clean events are being organised by Plastic Free Community Groups of Minehead, Watchet, and Exmoor this month.

They will form part of the Marine Conservation Society’s (MCS) Great British Beach Clean campaign.

The first is in Minehead on Saturday, September 16, followed on Sunday, September 17, by one in Dunster, and concluding with an event in Watchet on Saturday, September 23.

The organisers will welcombe as many people as possible to go along and help, with litter pickers and sacks being provided but attendees will need to take their own gloves.

The three events will each last for two hours and are being run with the support of Litter Free Coast and Sea – Somerset, Surfers Against Sewage, The Beach Hotel, in Minehead, and Dunster Beach Holidays.

In Minehead, beach cleaners will meet outside the Beach Hotel at 11 am and initially will cover the sandy stretch of beach opposite The Queens Hall and Merlins Amusements to just past the Channel Adventure Centre.

A detailed survey will be carried out of the different types of litter picked up to add to the MCS national database.

The volunteers will then carry out a general beach clean along Minehead sea front, focusing on particular litter hotspot areas, sorting it afterwards to be taken away for recycling or disposing of responsibly.

Volunteers helping in Dunster will meet at 11 am in Dunster Beach Car Park with free parking being offered by Dunster Beach Holidays.

A detailed survey of different types of litter found on a small stretch of beach will be conducted for the MCS national database, as well as a general beach clean.

In Watchet, the volunteers will meet at 2.30 pm on the slipway to West Street Beach.

They will also hold a detailed survey of different types of litter from a small stretch of West Street Beach for MCS and carry out a general beach clean and litter pick in and around Watchet.

Afterwards, they will be invited to The Sanctuary, in Swain Street, for hot drinks and cake, while sorting of the litter takes place.

A Plastic Communities spokesperson said: “These events are also a great chance to find out about, share ideas, and get involved in the Exmoor and West Somerset Plastic Free Communities.”

More information about the events and how to book placed can be found on the MSC website or by emailing [email protected].
