NEW playground equipment has been officially opened for pupils of Watchet’s Knights Templar Community Church School, in Liddymore Road.
The school had been raising funds for new playground equipment during the course of the year.
The school council, which includes children from year one to year four, had a key role in the project by leading discussions about the equipment they would like to see installed, sourcing quotations for the work, and choosing the final product.
Their hard work has now paid off as the school councillors all cut a ribbon to mark the official opening of the ‘Jungle Climber’.
Knights Templar headteacher Laura Weaver said: “Our children are very lucky to have been able to gather support from so many local groups to enable their vision to come to fruition.
“I am extremely grateful that our year four school councillors have been able to benefit from this project before they transition to new schools in September.”
Ms Weaver said at a time of significant budget pressures in schools, Knights Templar was extremely grateful for donations which were made to the project.
The funding support came from a number of organisations, including the Quantock Masonic Lodge, WPA, Watchet Bookshop, The Co-Op Community Fund, and the Charity Stall on Liddymore Road.
Ms Weaver said without such support the project would never have been a success.
The nearly 200-pupil Knights Templar School, which has core Christian values at its heart, is a Church of England and Methodist school within the Diocese of Bath and Wells.
