EUPHONIUM player Pete Owen is putting down roots with the West Somerset Brass Band to mark 60 years as a member.

Mr Owen, who also plays Eb bass and baritone, has become the longest-serving member after joining in 1963.

To recognise his commitment, the band presented Mr Owen with gardening vouchers to purchase a tree of his choice.

The tree will be planted alongside a wooden plaque engraved in appreciation of his contribution to the band.

In addition to his musical talents, Mr Owen has held various leadership roles over the years, including chairman and secretary.

Musical director Niall Watson said: “Pete’s 60 years with West Somerset Brass Band is an amazing achievement, especially as he does not even look old enough to have been with us for that long.

“We all really value his musical skills, his commitment and loyalty to the band.

“He is a great role model.”
