STUDENTS in the West Somerset College, Minehead, were celebrating a ‘bumper crop’ of A-level grades on Thursday (August 15).
Headteacher Zoe Stucki said results had improved in all headline measures.
Ms Stucki said: “We are a small sixth form college but despite our diminutive size, we have achieved a huge haul of seven A*/Distinction* grades, 17 A/Distinction grades, and 41 B/Merit grades.
“Our A*-C percentage has increased by 19 per cent when compared to last year and as a result we have improved our value-added score by +0.72.”
Ms Stucki said there had been many great subject performances this year, including sport double award, photography, textiles, chemistry, extended project qualification where all students achieved 100 per cent A* to C or equivalent grades.
History achieved 89 per cent A* to C, media studies 75 per cent, art 73 per cent, and health and social care 71 per cent.
Among the excellent individual student performances this year were:
Juozapas Neverauskas achieving triple As, Alfie Southam achieving two As and a B, Sophia Anderson’s two As and a C, Kayleigh Ford with two A-stars and an E, Hermione Davies, and Rosie Webber claiming three Bs.
Ms Stucki said: “At West Somerset College we have A-level courses and vocational courses for 16 to 19-year-olds commencing from September.

Students at Richard Huish College, Taunton, are once again celebrating superb Level 3 Vocational and A Level results after putting tremendous hard work and determination into their studies.
Principal, Emma Fielding, said: “Today’s results are absolutely stunning and the best for many, many years. I am so proud of our students, not just for their amazing academic achievements, but for the contributions they have made to our college community through their curiosity, dedication, and huge sense of fun”.
The overall A Level pass rate at Huish is 99%, with 81% of students gaining A*- C grades. An impressive 57% achieved high grades of A*-B, 4% above the national average. A Level students did well across a wide range of courses, with 81 achieving three or more A*/A grades, and 95 achieving three or more A*/A grades at A Level and AS Level.
