PARKING restrictions could be introduced in Blenheim Road, Minehead, after the Free Press highlighted residents’ concerns over people living on the street in motorhomes for months at a time.

Motorhome owners have been taking advantage of the absence of yellow lines, meaning any vehicle can park provided they were taxed, insured, and had an MOT.

A Somerset Council spokesperson said the authority currently did not have grounds to take action.

However, the spokesperson said: “We are aware of peoples’ concerns and our team is looking at whether introducing restrictions would be a viable option.”

The Free Press reported last week on how emotions were running high among some local residents over the way parking spaces were being taken up.

The issue of long-term parking on Minehead sea front by motorhomes and camper vans first arose about four years ago when the counci promised a parking review, but the Covid pandemic then set in.
