WELLINGTON'S Brooke Aspin was a member of England's team which has qualified for the 2024 UEFA Women's Under 19 football championship which will be staged in Lithuania in July, writes Barry Knott.
Brooke, a former student at Court Fields School, Wellington, played in England's first two qualifying matches abroad in which they beat Switzerland 2-0 and Portugal 1-0 and was on the bench for the last game in Italy in which they won 4-1, after being 1-0 down.
Brooke, who plays in defence, has been a regular for Bristol City this season in the Women's Super League and will be back with them on Sunday.
Brooke was supported in her three international matches by family members, including dad Craig who played first team football for Wellington and granddad Graham, who also played for the town side.
A talented centre-back, Brooke has overcome sepsis and a bad injury earlier this season to play at the top level of women's football.
Her aim is to play for England Lionesses who are the current European champions.
