MINEHEAD Bowling Club have held the Charlie Harvey Competition, a novice indoor singles tournament. Sixteen players with three or less years’ experience battled it out over three games of 25 minutes, with the best four progressing through to the semi-finals.
There was a super close game between Sue Prentice and Nick Swan in one semi-final; Sue went ahead with the maximum score in the first end and Nick replied with the same in the second. It was 7 all on the 5th end with Nick scoring three shots in the fourth and Sue securing 3 shots in the 3rd and 5th end combined.
Nick was able to pip Sue to the Post on the final end with just the one shot to secure his place in the final and winning the semi-final 8-7.
In the second semi-final Robin Auster made a solid start against Chris Franklin, winning the first two ends and leading by 3 shots. Chris, undeterred, matched Robin’s score in the 3rd end and then inched ahead in the 4th and 5th end, scoring a single shot in each to win 5-3.
In the final, Chris went on to dominate the final against Nick to finish a comfortable winner.
