ENGLAND captain Heather Knight OBE will be joining the Somerset County Cricket Club’s Board as an advisor, writes Richard Walsh. Heather, who hails from Plymouth, has represented her country on more than 260 occasions over the course of more than a decade, and will play an important role advising the board on cricketing matters.
As well as captaining the side to World Cup glory, the former Somerset Academy player also led Western Storm to two Kia Super League titles, making the team the most successful of the KSL era.
When announcing Heather’s appointment, Somerset CCC Chair, Sir Michael Barber said: “To have someone with Heather’s vast knowledge and experience advising our board is a real feather in the cap for Somerset. As England captain, Heather has been at the forefront of the evolution of the women’s game, and it is her generation of players who have helped to shape the direction in which women’s cricket is currently travelling.
“She is a World Cup winner, a genuine leader and someone who knows exactly what cricket means to the people of the South West. She is therefore perfectly placed to advise us on all facets of the game.”
