WELLINGTON 2nd XI maintained their 100 per cent record and stretched the lead at the top of Division Three in the Somerset Cricket League with a seven-wicket victory away to their Minehead counterparts.

After deciding to bat first, Minehead lost both openers Vishnu Kombath (18) and Jonah Hopkins (4) for only 22 runs.

Josh Hurley (16), Alastair Harrison (25) and James Davies (20 not out) all played themselves in - but could not make a real impact in the match. Minehead eventually scoredr 132 for nine in their 40 overs - a total which was never going to be enough against the division's leaders and favourites for the title.

Wellington's main wicket takers were Tom Hopkins (2-35), Ollie Hunt (2-11) and Rob Moysey (2-26).

Knocking off the runs proved no problem for Wellington with opener Ben Evett scoring 55 and Neil Hendy 45 not out. James Davis (1-41) and Jack White (1-25) were Minehead's only bowlers to take wickets.

Wellington have now won all seven of their matches this season, while this was Minehead's fourth loss in seven fixtures.

Wellington are home to Chard in the league on Saturday, June 22, while Minehead are home again - to South Petherton.
