MINEHEAD 2nd XI lost their third game of the season in Division Three of the Somerset Cricket League when they went down by 97 runs away to Middlezoy who are just off the pace at the top of the table.

The home side, put into bat on a good-looking wicket, scored steadily throughout their innings with Brogan Flitton top scoring with 63 before being bowled by Lewis Goodrum

Ben Pomeroy hit 32 before being caught by Jonah Hopkins off the bowling of Goodrum, while Max Wilkins made 27 and opener Nathan Barnard 25.

Goodrum finished with figures of 2-46, Robert Spiers 4-43 and Jack Richards 1-34.

Minehead lost four early wickets in the run chase before Josh Hurley (41) and Henry Hurrell (32) halted a complete collapse in the Seconds’ innings.

However, they never looked like getting the runs and were bowled out for 121 in 33-5 overs, leaving Minehead sixth in the table.

Barnard (2-4), Brogan Flitton (2-11), Taylor Flitton (2-34) and Edward Peacock (2-10) were Middlezoy’s main wicket takers.

Meanwhile, Minehead will have to step up their game if they are going to beat leaders Wellington 2nd XI at home on Saturday (1.30). Wellington have a 100 per cent record after six matches.
