REIGNING champions Kilve suffered a three-wicket home defeat against Over Stowey on the opening day of the season in the first division of the West Somerset Cricket League.
Batting first, Kilve were bowled out for 88 with only Andy Rock (19) and Carl Clemenson (23) managing to score any runs. Kieran Barrow took 4-21 and Ben Washer 3-23.
Stowey did not find batting much easier, but opener James Swales steered them to victory with a knock of 35.
Ashbrittle stunned Bridgetown with a ten-wicket home victory. Bridgetown were shot out for 81 with Harry Norman and Oliver White both snapping up three wickets. Ashes' openers Luke Williams (52) and Wilfred Embleton (21) piled on the agony for the visitors.
Brompton Ralph proved no match for visitors Bagborough who won by seven wickets. B Poole (79) was the only Brompton player to reach double figures as Henry Stiraker (3-25) and David Stiraker (3-36) struck at the opposition. Henry Stiraker (47) and Tom Eve (51 not out) were Bagbrough's leading run-makers.
West Huntspill won by 49 runs in a high-scoring game at Morebath who made 169 when chasing East Huntspill's 218. Brodie Anderson was 113 not out for the winners.
Roadwater gained their second win in eight days by beating Carhampton by 115 runs in the second division. Ross Cornish cracked 87 in Roadwater's 205-6 but Carhampton were no match when chasing victory, being bowled out for 90 with Oliver Cole taking 4-14 and Jack Foster 3-10.
Watchet, favourites to win another promotion after dominating the third division last summer, won by a massive 215 runs at home to Stoodleigh who crashed to 59 all out with Callum Knight in good form with 4-20. James Weetch scored 112 for Watchet, while Ryan Strong was 54 not out.
Bishops Hull and Wiveliscombe both won their matches in Division Three. The Taunton side were four-wicket winners against Cannington who were bowled out for 103 by Bishops Hull, with only Robert Marcus Coombs (48 not out) offering any real resistance. Tobias Bishop was 68 not out for Bishops Hull.
Wiveliscombe just managed to get over the line at Fitzhead who scored 115 all out. Wiveliscombe also encountered problems when batting before winning by three wickets.
Match of the Day was at Over Stowey where the home side's second team tied with Stoke St Mary in Division Four, both teams scoring 140-9. William Marchent-Saunders scored 80 for Stowey while Joseph Harding made 39 for Stoke.
Hemyock, relegated at the end of last season, won by three wickets at Roadwater who were all out for 108 with seven of their batters making ducks. The Devon outfit also found it difficult to score runs with Louis Allan making 22 and Mark Holland taking 3-22 in nine overs.
