WIVELISCOMBE were involved in a rain-affected draw at home to Broadway & Horton in Division Two of the Somerset Cricket League on Saturday.
The visitors, batting first, scored 194 for seven in their 40 overs and Wiveliscombe were 54-2 off 22 overs when rain forced the game to be abandoned.
Tim Gibbs was Broadway's star batter, scoring 73 not out . Opener Robert Dubery hit 24, while Matt Derham and Josh Parker both scored 17.
Mathew Redwood took 2-33 and Richard Morrison 2-18 for the home side, while Gareth Bellamy and Connor Ashworth finished with a wicket apiece.
Chasing 195 to win, Wiveliscombe did not make the best of starts. Bellamy had made only eight when he was caught off the bowling of Jon Pike and Ross Porter was out after scoring only two. At this stage Wiveliscombe were 23-2. However Morrison was 27 not out and Ashcott 12 not out moved the score on to 54 before the rain. Pike claimed his two wickets for the loss of only one run.
Wiveliscombe collected 21 points and Broadway, who are the early leaders of the division, 23 points.
Only one other match in the division started with Weston super Mare scoring 81-1 at West Monkton before the game was called off.
