ALL matches in the premier and first divisions of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League on Saturday (Dec 7) were called off because of Storm Darragh.

Minehead were due to play at home to Keynsham Town Reserves while Watchet faced a journey to play Uphill Castle.

Minehead manager Craig Carr said: “There was nothing wrong with our pitch but obviously the gale force winds were the big problem.

“The decision was made by the league. The Government’s advice on Saturday was not to travel.

“We actually contacted Keynsham on the Thursday to see if they were prepared to travel and they said they saw no problem.

“But whether we would have played the game if the league had not called it off we do not know. We could have had a training session on Saturday but decided against it. We gave the players a break.”

“One thing is certain. Most pitches would have dried out over the weekend meaning they will be in better shape this coming weekend.”

Meanwhile, Minehead have a rearranged home fixture against bottom side Ashcott in the first division this weekend (Dec 14, 2p.m.). Ashcott have yet to win a game.
